Jian tea cup(建盏), or Jian cup, is the origin of Chinese idiom 推杯换盏, illustrating the scenario of replacing the wine cup with Jian cup which is bigger in size and more premium in quality, as a symbol of friendship and hospitality.

In ancient China, Jian cups are baked in dragon kilns, by burning woods. Jian cup is well known as “One color in the kiln, ten thousand colors arise”(入窑一色,出窑万彩).
